Katarína Mathernová studied law at Comenius University in Bratislava and at Michigan University. She worked as a lawyer in attorney's offices Shearman & Sterling in London and Wolker, Cutler & Pickering in Washington. In the years 1993-1998 and 2002-2005 she worked for the World Bank in Washington. In the meantime she served as Chief Advisor to Ivan Mikloš, Deputy Prime Minister of the Slovak Republic, in the field of institutional affairs. She is co-author of the main government concept of institutional, legal and regulatory reforms necessary for improving the business and investment environment. In 2001 and 2002 she cooperated with Open Society Institute and German Marshall Fund. Between 2005 and 2007 she was Director of DG Regional Policy and was in charge of planning and implementing regional policy and structural funds in eight countries, among others also in the Czech Republic. Since September 2007 she has served as Deputy Director General for Regional Policy and has been in charge of cohesion policy. |
