Colin Mercer was the UKs first full Professor of Cultural Policy at the Nottingham Trent University from 1999-2003. Prior to that he was a director of the Institute for Cultural Policy Studies at Griffith University, Australia. He has led and authored more than 40 policy projects on the cultural sector since 1991 when he completed Australia's first city-wide cultural development strategy He has worked on 12 creative industries mapping and development projects at local, regional, national and international levels in Australia, Asia, the UK and continental Europe and also published widely in the field including The Cultural Planning Handbook: An Essential Australian Guide (1995) and Towards Cultural Citizenship: tools for cultural policy and development (2002). His work on urban creative industries and the creative economy includes projects in Nottingham and Brighton in the UK and Cordoba, Tartu and Bergen in continental Europe. He is now a freelance consultant. |
